Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, April 30, 8-10pm) include the Brogues, Lothar and the Hand People, Radio Stars, Shapes, 100 Flowers, Vermillion Sands, Limiñanas, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

PIC SLEEVE OF THE WEEK: Cristina Monet Zilkha, or simply, Cristina, was known for a sound that mixed a disco-y alt-pop infused with a punk attitude. Her second, and final album, “Sleep It Off,” was released in 1984 on Mercury Records, and reissued in 2004 on Ze Records. Its cover featured artwork by the French graphic designer and photographer Jean-Paul Goude. Goude did extensive design work for and had a lengthy romantic relationship with Grace Jones. The back cover featured a photo of Cristina by Chuck Sillery. Click on image to enlarge.

LAST WEEK’S DUSTY DIAMOND (a forgotten gem from the STD vaults): The Spaceshits were a raucous garage band from Montreal, and included Mark Pepe (AKA Mark Sultan, BBQ) on lead vocals and Arish Ahmad Khan (AKA King Khan) on bass. They were active from 1996-1999, and released two albums and several singles. “Aw Yeah!” is turbo charged blast of party garage-core. Listening to this brings a mix of exhilaration and exhaustion; it’s quite the work-out. It appeared in 1996 on the double 7″ “Full Fisted Action” EP on Sympathy for the Record Industry, and was their first release. Listen to it here:
