Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, January 21, 8-10pm) include the Sons of Adam, Carnabeats, Brett Smiley, Earle Mankey, Real Kids, Plastics, Fall-Outs, Stereo Total, Pulses, lots of new music, as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Cheveu are (were?) a punkish alt garage trio from Paris with a substantial and diverse output between 2004 and 2014. Their first vinyl release was the 2006 “Clara Vénus” single on the SDZ and Royal labels and came in a ¾ folded jacket. It featured original artwork by Lili Zeller, co-owner of Royal Records as well as a singer and guitarist in various French punk bands (Splash Four, No-Talents, Volt). Click on image to enlarge.
DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a forgotten gem from the STD vaults): Puff Tube (also Pufftube) were an avant garage band presumably from Cleveland. They had a couple releases in the early 90s as well as songs on various compilations. “My Baby Is a Great Cook” starts with some tape manipulation then bursts into a frenetically paced experimental party tune, kinda like if the Residents were a garage band. It appeared in 1991 on the “Emergency Peanut” EP and was included in the Scat Records Quarterly #5/6 magazine. Listen to it here:
