Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, January 17, 8-10pm) include the Poppy Family, Ricky Wilde, Real Kids, Lene Lovich, Los Microwaves, Young Fresh Fellows, Bongwater, Vaticans, PyPy, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Lene Lovich (real name Lili Marlene Premilovich) is an American-British singer who came to prominence in the late 70s new wave movement. She recorded several albums, many on Stiff Records, through 2005. Just recently she opened for the B-52’s and Devo on their North American tour. Her first hit song, “Lucky Number,” appeared originally in 1978 as the B-side to her cover of the Tommy James and the Shondell’s song “I Think We’re Alone Now” on Stiff. It was soon reissued as an A-side, also on Stiff, and reached No. 3 in the UK charts. The classic cover photo was taken by Brian Griffin. (Click on image to enlarge)

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): Jennifer Gentle are an Italian indie rock band whose name comes from the lyrics of Pink Floyd’s song “Lucifer Sam.” Formed in early 2000, they became the first European band to sign with Sub Pop, releasing several albums on that label as well as others. They were performing as recently as 2023. “I Do Dream You” is an infectious up-tempo indie romp with playful vocals and crisp guitar work. Fun tune! It appeared in 2005 on the “Valende,” their first release on Sub Pop. Listen to it here:
