The Stephen Rice Memorial Fund recently announced the 2023 winner of their annual Scholarship of $2,500 established to support LGBT students interested in pursuing a career in radio, TV, journalism, or film. The recipient this year is Gabriel Czlapinski
Gabriel Czlapinski is a Communication Studies major with a Media Emphasis at the University of Wisconsin- La Crosse. Alongside his studies, he is actively involved in various organizations such as Student Support Services, Communication Club, and Intercultural Organization Promoting Awareness. Upon graduation, Gabriel intends to pursue a career in public relations or journalism within the fashion industry. One of his greatest passions is promoting a safe, inclusive, and diverse social environment where everyone can feel seen, understood, and accepted.”
The Stephen RIce Scholarship was established to celebrate the life of Stephen Rice, a longtime AIDS and LGBTQ rights activist and KOOP radio personality. Rice passed away in July 2017.
