Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, November 19, 8-10pm) include the Cherry Slush, Merrell Fankhauser and HMS Bounty, Vibrators, Tony Koklin, Young Marble Giants, Scientists, Hickoids, Puffy AmiYumi, lots of new music, as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The Hickoids are an Austin-based cow-punk band who early on earned a reputation for crazy ass live shows. They have been performing and recording since the mid 80s. For their second album, “Waltz a Crossdress Texas,” they featured cover art by the original guitarist Davy Jones along with a band photo by Joseph Cultice. It was released in 1989 on Toxic Shock Records and included a lyric sheet. Jones passed away in 2015 after a bout with lung cancer. Click image to enlarge.

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a forgotten gem from the STD vaults): The Inland Emperors were a short-lived garage rock band from Washington state. They had but one release, a 1994 single on Bag of Hammers. “Hey, Hey, Blake Pirtle” is a roughhewn garage nugget with some gritty guitar and a sad tale of demon drugs. The silkscreened cover art was done by band members Steve Dukich (art) and Curt Buchberger (silkscreen). Listen to it here:
