Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, November 12, 8-10pm) include the Troggs, Nikki and the Corvettes, Tubeway Army, Insect Surfers, Robyn Hitchcock, Prisoners, Shitbirds, Ponys, lots of new music, as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The Shitbirds were a garage rock band from Los Angeles that included April March (real name Elinor Blake) on lead vocals. They were active for a couple of years during the early 90s. Besides being a talented singer (in French as well as English) March was also a professional animator and worked for a while on the Ren and Stimpy show. Their Oh Joy! 10” mini LP featured work by John Kricfalusi, the creator of Ren and Stempy, on the front and back covers. It appeared in 1993 on the Sympathy for the Record Industry label. DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a forgotten gem from the STD vaults): The No-Talents were a 90s French garage punk band with an emphasis on the “punk.” Between the years 1996 and 1999 they released two full length albums and four singles/EPs. “We Are the No-Talents” is a short three-chord blast of straight-ahead punk sound and attitude. It appeared in 1996 on their self-titled first album on Wild Wild Records. Listen to it here:
