Welcome to The Lonesome Stranger, classic and not so classic country music for the listener who gave up on country radio.

All killer, no filler, no bro bands or lip sync-ers. Authentic get down for the discerning country music aficionado.

Who are The Lonesome Strangers?

Lonesome & strange, Yance-man has been a KOOP DJ since 2016 cutting his teeth as part of Love on the Dole, starting his own freeform show Channel Surfing Fridays at 11 AM, and spending time as a member of Fresh from the Underground. He believes Hank Williams is king, loves cover songs, and hopes to do KOOP’s legacy of country & roots programming proud.

Claude Hopper made his way to KOOP via the open road and his twin, Rocky, brings you classic rock and psychedelia over at Le Chateau Daddy-O at 4:30 on Tuesdays while their yet-to-be-confirmed-by-DNA “nth cousin,” Brother Elmer, serves up some old-timey folk, gospel and other traditional American offerings on Sunday Go To Meetin’, heard at 9am every––you guessed it–– Sunday morning.

Tim Hertenberger is no stranger to country, having graced the KOOP airwaves with the excellent Country Standard Time, The Land of Rhythm and Pleasure, and served as co-host of American Pop. An accomplished musician in his own right, Tim brings his wealth of musical knowledge to the program.

Melinda Bee grew up with Hee Haw, 1970’s AM country radio, and most importantly open ears that follow the music. She may be a little obsessed with Tennessee Ernie Ford. She loves mid-century, roots, lounge, and cosmic country, with an appreciation for the weird or just plain silly. You can also find her on Fridays at the helm of The Africa Express and as a rotating host on The Geography Of Sound on Thursdays and Be Kind Rewind on Fridays.

Dave Jaffe, that’s right, a real DJ, grew up in New York listening to the Grand Ole Opry on WSM from Nashville before the area even had a country station. Mix in some roots rock and Southern soul music and you have the music Dave plays, rocknrollcountrysoul!

Saint Annie grew up thinking country music was for squares. When she discovered Alt-Country in the 1990’s a love of country music––both new and old––blossomed. She adores country duets, pedal steel, and the women of country music––Dolly, Loretta, Patsy, Tammy, Wanda, Lucinda, Neko, Margo… You can also catch her playing indie tunes Fridays at 6pm on Beat Happenings.

Jeff Keen loves a pretty melody, layered harmonies, and clever turns of phrase—all things that country music is great at delivering. He grew up on 70s soft-pop-ballads from Kenny Rogers, Glen Campbell, and John Denver, and had to discover the rest on his own. He can remember every detail about the life-altering experience it was hearing Willie Nelson’s Phases and Stages and Johnny Cash’s Live at Folsom Prison for the first time. Catch Jeff getting lost in the sauce on his tasty show, The Hot Pocket.
