The Africa Express features vintage African music from the early 20th century to the 1980s, spanning all countries, cultures, and musical styles.
Melinda Bee bought her first record when she was 5 years old (The Monkees, natch) and much to her parents’ dismay, kept buying them. Her path eventually led to KOOP, where every week she thanks her lucky stars that she gets to share some of her favorite music with KOOP listeners. She says; “I especially love African music. My degree is in anthropology, and the musical intersection of cultures and styles and instruments combined with Africa’s rich history is endlessly fascinating. I never get tired of listening and each new artist I hear sends me in a new direction of sound.”
