Pearl’s General Store has always been a fun variety show broadcast from the store, which is conveniently located inside the radio station. We play and talk about music.
I attempt to find and present unique songs and artists alike. I also want to spin those one or two old favorites that you’ve been dying to hear and didn’t even know it. To me, that’s good radio.
When Boots and I made the move to the 9-11 AM time slot in November of 2018, we widened our horizons. In honor of Len Brown (now retired) from the Country Roots program, we started playing a bunch of vintage country music in hour one of the program. It’s all the artists you know from the ’50s forward, from Faron Young to Loretta Lynn, Mell Tillis, Ray Price, Jean Shepard, Connie Smith, Ernest Tubb and much more. Then there’s the deep cuts and newer artists who are carrying on in the older tradition of Honky-Tonk, heartbreak Ballads, Swing and Western. Think Rosie Flores, Roger Wallace, Amber Digby, Bruce Robison, Jim Lauderdale, Robbie Fulks, and Charley Crockett. It seems like it’s going pretty well so we’ll keep it rolling for now. Boots is definitely digging it. In hour two, we branch out into Americana, Countrypolitan, Ameripolitan, Jazz, Blues, Standards, Rock ‘n Roll and genres unknown but stick pretty close to all things “Roots”. You will hear anything from Aretha Franklin to the Ramones, JD McPherson to Fats Domino, Nick Lowe to Satchmo and always some unknowns as well. Just for kicks, we throw in a theme for the playlist about once a month. Some weeks we have friends, bands and guests stop by to chat about music (and beyond) and share songs from their music collections. If we’re lucky, there are live performances as well. At 9 AM every Friday we swing open the doors to all! We love to hear from our listeners so please contact us with any questions, comments, tidbits and general words of wisdom.
We aim to entertain you, introduce you to some great tunes, take you to your musical happy place and for goodness sake, have some fun!

I have had a passion for discovering music through community radio for almost 20 years now.
I programmed a show on another community station (KNON 89.3 FM) for many years before becoming a part of the family here at KOOP radio in 2011.
I am a fourth-generation Texan raised in Fort Worth but have called Austin home for the last 10 years. I love the idea of bringing songs and artists to the airwaves that others can discover through me (gotta love the non-commercial aspect here). I love sharing information and trivia around the music and songwriting in particular.
