Folkville was real, a folk music club back in the day located at 29th @ San Jacinto in Austin. Proprietor Weldon Brewer opened in 1981 and would pass the hat, a Star Wars plastic stormtrooper helmet, for voices such as Townes Van Zandt, Butch Hancock, Pat Mears, Blaze Foley, Nanci Griffith, Lyle Lovett, Emily Katz, Michelle Shocked and Bill Oliver among others. Some of these are still active writing and performing today. This scene and these artists are the inspiration for the show. We’ll feature artists that played Folkville along with new and well known contemporary artists and further explore the genre. The club is gone but spirit is still here, and that’s a beautiful thing.

Dave Jaffe, that’s right, a real DJ, plays a mix of classic and current Americana, country and folk, with an emphasis on great songwriting and Austin and Texas musicians.
