Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, January 31, 8-10pm) include the Byrds, Factory, Gang of Four, Model Citizens, Lambrettas, Game Theory, David Bean, Fall-Outs, Polysics, Naked Roommate, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The Fall-Outs were a punky garage band with a pop edge from Seattle active from the mid and late 80s through the early 00s. They released three full-length albums (and an early cassette only release) and several singles and have been a STD favorite from the beginning. “Sleep,” their second album, was released in 1994 on Super Electro Records and featured cover art by Seattle (via Australia) musician and illustrator Ed Fotheringham. He has done cover art for bands like Love Battery, Mudhoney, The Muffs and many more. (Click on image to enlarge)

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): This week’s DD runs far afield from the garage rock and punk focus of the early years of the show. German electronic musician Felix Kubin teamed up with Finnish synth rock and indie band Aavikko to record a one-off single in 2002 on the Diskono label. “Superlake Beat,” the A-side, is a catchy up-tempo keyboard instrumental with chorus that sounds like it could be the closing music of a movie as the credits roll by. And I can dance to it! Fun tune! Listen to it here:
