On this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, September 6, 8-10pm) host Scott Gardner celebrates the Party Sounds of Five by featuring some of his favorite tunes from the years 1965, 1975, 1985, 1995, 2005, 2015 and 2025. Some featured artists include the Kinks, Lulu and the Luvvers, Sparks, Brian Eno, Hickoids, Dukes of Stratospear, Camper Van Beethoven, Muffs, Elastica, Staches, and more. This will be the first of two fall membership drive Stronger Than Dirt shows, so please consider showing your support for KOOP 91.7, Austin’s community radio, by making a donation. And thanks!

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: “Indiscreet” was Sparks’ fifth studio album, and their third since relocating from Los Angeles to England in 1973. Released in October 1975 on Island Records, it was not as popular as its two predecessors, “Kimono My House” and “Propaganda,” though it did reach #18 in the UK Album Chart. It came with a gatefold jacket and featured photography on the front cover and inside by Richard Creamer and on the back cover by Gered Mankowitz.

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): Pork were an all-female band from Austin that were active from the early to mid 90s. Known for simple lo-fi songs and fun live shows, they were pioneers of Austin’s garage scene in the 90s. “Tell You Know Lies” is an up-tempo three chord pounder with some attitude. It appeared on the 1996 “Slop” album on the Emperor Jones and Trance Syndicate labels. Listen to it here:
