COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The Algebra Mothers (AKA A-Moms) were a short-lived post-punk band from Detroit. They had but one release, the 1979 “Strawberry Cheesecake” single on the Aftertaste label. It featured cover art by Ralph Valdez who also played bass on the B-side track. It also included an insert which sadly my copy is missing. (Click on image to enlarge)
DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Sons of Hercules are a San Antonio garage punk band fronted by the amazing and IMHO legendary Frank Pugliese (Vamps, Mystery Dates). They took inspiration in equal parts from 60s garage and 70s punk and some New York Dolls and combined it for a classic 90s sound. And their live shows were killer. They were mostly active in the 90s and early 00s but continue to play out occasionally. “Piece of Mine” is a rollicking blast of punk and roll with tasty guitar licks and snarling vocals and impressive screams by Pugliese. It appeared in 1994 on their self-titled debut album on Unclean Records. Listen to it here:
