On this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, September 14, 8-10pm) host Scott
Gardner celebrates the Party Sounds of Four by featuring some of his favorite
tunes from the years 1964, 1974, 1984, 1994, 2004, 2014 and 2024. Some
featured artists include the Kinks, Glitter Band, Replacements, Poison 13,
Bangles, Rip Offs, Stereolab, Electrelane, Parquet Courts, and more. This will be
the first of two fall membership drive Stronger Than Dirt shows, so please

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Poison 13 were a blues-y garage rock band from
Austin that included members of punk legends The Big Boys. Along with other
Austin bands (Butthole Surfers, Scratch Acid) they created a sound that
influenced some of the later Seattle groups like Mudhoney. They were active
from 1984 to 1987 and reunited for a show in 2000. Their debut self-titled album,
produced by Spot, was released in 1984 on Wrestler Records. It featured photos
by Austin photographer Pat Blashill and a layout by Jean Jordan. Renowned
tattoo artist Rollo Banks (real name Michael Malone) created their logo. (Click on

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The
Armitage Shanks were a British garage punk band associated with the Billy
Childish/Medway scene of the 90s. Formed in 1991 they were active throughout
the decade and into the early and mid 00s, releasing numerous albums and
singles. “Top International Celebrities,” a simmering mid-tempo groover, features
sneering, name-dropping, soaked in sarcasm vocals by front man Richard
Huggins: “We know people who know minor celebrities.” Ouch. It appeared in
