Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, October 31, 8-10pm) include the Electric Prunes, Tomorrow, Sweet, Rezillos, Suburban Lawns, Oingo Boingo, Fur, Le Tigre, Art Brut, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Die Doraus und die Marinas were an early 80s German experimental pop project spearheaded by 16-year-old Andreas Dorau (die Doraus) and backed by female friends and classmates (die Marinas). Promoted and produced by members of avant post-punk band Der Plan, they released two albums and three singles between 1981 and 1983. Their breakout song,” “Fred vom Jupiter,” was released in 1981 on the Ata Tak label and was a big hit in Germany. It featured cover artwork by Ata Tak co-founder and Der Pan member Moritz Reichelt and artist Eberhard Steinkrueger.

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Walkingseeds (also Walking Seeds) were an at rock band from Liverpool whose sound is often described as psychedelic grunge. Formed in the mid 80s as The Corinthians, they changed their name to the Walkingseeds shortly before releasing their first EP in 1986. They continued into the mid 90s, releasing several albums and singles. “Weight of the Years” is a catchy, loping psych rocker channeling both Love and the Elevators, just a bit heavier. Cool tune. It appeared in 1990 on the “Bad Orb.. Whirling Ball,” released on Paperhouse Records in the UK and on Shimmy Disc in the US. You can listen to it here:
