“Is it rolling, Bob?” The Singer and the Song celebrates legendary record producer Bob Johnston with guest Harold Eggers. Bob Dylan famously asked, “Is it rolling, Bob?” on the Nashville Skyline album. He was addressing producer Bob Johnston, who produced a lot of Dylan records, and those of many others, including Louis Armstrong and Johnny Cash. In fact, it was Bob’s idea to record Johnny at Folsom Prison. My friend Harold knew Bob well, as Harold spent many years on the road with Townes Van Zandt. I met Johnston through Harold, and today, we’ll play from the records Bob produced and tell stories about the most interesting person I ever interviewed, the late Bob Johnston. This will be fun, as Harold and I celebrate Bob Johnston for the whole hour TODAY on KOOP 91.7 FM and koop.org, 3-4pm, Saturday, July 25th. By the way, you can still listen to last week’s episodes (JLQ) at The Singer and the Song – KOOP Radio 91.7 FM [Photo below is me, Harper Simon (son of Paul) and Bob Johnston in 2010; second photo, Harold and me].
