Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, May 2, 8-10pm) include the Mojo Men, Glenda Collins, Hello, The Jolt, Public Image Ltd., Adam and the Ants, Nuns, Flipper, Ed Hall, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The Nuns were a pioneering punk rock band from San Francisco that initialy included among others future Austinite Alejandro Escovedo. Along with the Avengers they opened at the Sex Pistols’ infamous last show in January 1978 at Winterland. After Escovedo’s departure in 1979 the band split but reformed a couple of times with a line-up that featured original mambers Jennifer Miro and Jeff Olener. They recorded an album in 1980 which was released on Bomp! Records and the next year in the UK on Butt Records (shown here). Both featured the same photos by Olgilvy and slightly different designs by Diane Zincavage. (Click on image to enlarge)

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Epoxies were a new wave / synth punk band from Portland OR. Active mainly in the early and mid 00s, they released two albums and three single/EPs. “Synthesized” is a catchy, driving synth waver with some tasty guitar licks. It appeared in 2002 on a single on Dirtnap Records. Listen to it here:
