Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, March 21, 8-10pm) include the Action, Giorgio, Rezillos, Au Pairs, Fun Boy Three, Go-Go’s, Elastica, Wannabes, Pozi, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Before The Specials’ “Ghost Town” reached number in the UK charts in July of 1981, Terry Hall, Neville Staples and Lynval Golding had already left the band to form Fun Boy Three and recorded their first single. The following year they released their first LP, a self-titled album on Chrysalis. It was less ska and more minimalist in sound and included Bananarama on one of the songs. The movie poster like cover art featured screen illustrations by Frank Elton, visual effects by John Sims, and cover color effects by Terry Day. The band split in 1983. (Click on image to enlarge)

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Bobbyteens were a garage rock and roll band from South City, CA that included among others Tina Lucchesi (Trashwomen, Tina and the Total Babes) and Russel Quan (Mummies). Formed in the mid 90s they released three albums and several singles between 1996 and 2004. “I’m Alright” is a crunchy three chord pounder with Lucchesi’s I’m not gonna take any more of your shit vocals. It appeared in 2000 on their “Not So Sweet” album on the Screaming Apple (vinyl) and Estrus (CD) labels. Listen to it here:
