Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, February 7, 8-10pm) include the Troggs, Lurkers, Undertones, Knack, Girls at Our Best, Jesus and Mary Chain, Television Personalities, Boss Hog, Habibi, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Formed in 1983 by brothers Jim and William Reid Scottish alternative rock band The Jesus and Mary Chain played an important part in the emergence of shoegaze and noise pop. They split in 1999 and then reunited in 2007 and continue to play live shows and record music though the Reid brothers are the only remaining members from the original lineup. “You Trip Me Up,” a single released in 1985 on the Blanco y Negro label, included Bobby Gillespie of Primal Scream on drums. It was also released as a three song EP, also on Blanco y Negro, both with the same uncredited design and photography.  (Click on image to enlarge)

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): Houston garage punk rockers Sugar Shack make their return as a Dusty Diamond. Formed in the late 80s they released several singles and albums up until 2002 and were known for amazing live shows. They still play out on occasion including at the STD 30th birthday party last year. “Go! Space City” is a pounding, searing, snotty full-throated defense of their (at the time) disrespected hometown. How times have changed, now Houston is cool, and Austin gets trashed. It appeared in 1997 on the “Five Weeks Ahead of My Time” album on Estrus Records.  Listen to it here:
