For this week’s show I will be spinning some of my favorite tunes including music by Pink Floyd, Carrie Nations, Sweet, Flamin’ Groovies, Wire, Split Enz, Dickies, Bis, Tralala, Parsnip, some new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond. It’s also the second Saturday of KOOP’s spring membership drive. It is through the generous support of listeners like you that keep programs like STD on the air. Thank you!
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: After co-founder Roy Loney left the legendary Flamin’ Groovies in 1972, their musical style shifted to a British Invasion power pop sound. In 1976 they signed with Sire and released three albums, including the classic “Shake Some Action” the same year. Recorded and produced by Dave Edmunds in the UK, the front and back covers present the band almost like tourists in London. Photos by Armand Haye of the mop-headed lads dressed in 60s inspired threads posing next to a Jaguar Daimler Sovereign car and in front of billboards give it all a very Swinging London feel. Art direction was by Tom Wilkes. (Click on image to enlarge)

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Lord High Fixers were an Austin/Houston garage rock supergroup comprised of members of Poison 13, Sugar Shack and the Spoilers. Active from the mid 90s and into the early 00s they released several albums and singles and were known for smoking live shows. “Right Here Right Now” is a sweaty manic work-out featuring the dueling guitars of Tim Kerr and Andy Wright behind the growling vocals of Mike Carroll. Recorded by Kerr and Paul Stautinger at Sweatbox in Austin it captures the intensity of their live shows. It appeared in 1994 on a single on No Lie Records and in 1997 on the “Group Improvisation…That’s Music!” 10” on Sympathy for the Music Industry. Listen to it here:
