The Singer and the Song welcomes Shuichi Iwami, author of a new book on Uncle Walt’s Band and The Contenders. If you’ve been out and about seeing live music in Austin the last few weeks, odds are good that you’ve crossed paths with Shuichi, who fell in love with Texas music years ago, most especially that of Uncle Walt’s Band and The Contenders. Shuichi has now written a book about both bands, and he’s visiting Austin right now from Hiroshima, Japan, celebrating the release of the book. We’ll talk about the book and hear tracks from both of these bands who mean as much to me as they do Shuichi. This will be a very special hour of radio on KOOP 91.7 FM and koop.org, 3-4pm, Saturday, February 21st.
