Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, September 27, 8-10pm) include Boyce & Hart (RIP Bobby Hart), Ohio Express, HMK, Clash, Pearl Harbor and the Explosions, Incredible Kidda band, Apples in Stereo, Bobbyteens, Polysics, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: For “London Calling,” their third studio album, The Clash continued to evolve stylistically, infusing their punk sound with other musical styles including rockabilly, ska and pop. It was a top ten chart hit in the UK and a platinum album in the US as well and is considered by critics as one of the great rock albums of all time. Released as a double album in December of 1979 on CBS in the UK and in January 1980 on Epic in the States, it featured a stunning front cover photograph by Pennie Smith of bassist Paul Simonon smashing his bass on the stage of the Palladium in NYC. The design, an homage to Elvis Presley’s first album, was done by Ray Lowry. Band photos on the back, also by Smith, included one from a performance at the Armadillo World Headquarters in Austin. DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Bristols were a British garage rock band featuring vocalist Fabienne Del Sol and producer/guitarist Liam Watson. They formed in the mid 90s and lasted until 2003 when Del Sol went solo. “Turn It On” is a scorching Swinging London party banger with coquettish vocals and maximum fuzz guitar. It appeared in 1997 on a single on the Damaged Goods label. Listen to it here:
