For this week’s show I will be spinning some of my favorite tunes including music by the Countdown 5, Os Mutantes, Glitter Band, Boys (RIP Honest John Plain), The Quick, Nervebreakers, Polyrock, Yachts, New Pornographers, Sons and Daughters, some new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond. It’s also the second Saturday of KOOP’s fall membership drive. It is through the generous support of listeners like you that keep programs like STD on the air. Thank you!
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The Boys are a long-time punk band from the UK. Formed in 1976 by members of London SS and Hollywood Brats, they were part of the illustrious group of first wave British punk bands. They still play out on occasion and released an EP in 2021. Sadly original guitarist Honest John Plain passed in June of this year. Their first LP (one of my favorites of that era), a self-titled album on various labels, was released in 1977 with uncredited cover art. This is a French pressing on the Eurodisc label. DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Baby Shakes are a punkish power pop rock and roll band from NYC with an impressive output of releases throughout the years. Formed in 2005 they were out on tour as recently as 2023 and released an album in 2019 and a single in 2020. “Shake Shake” is a super fun Nikki Corvette-channeling party bopper. It appeared on their very first release, a 2005 single on Douchemaster Records. Listen to it here:
