Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, October 4, 8-10pm) include Easybeats, Jets, Wire, Bram Tchaichovsky, Skafish, Plimsouls, Salvation Army, Ludus, Lush, PyPy, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Gas Huffer were a Seattle garage punk band active from 1989 until 2006. For each of their albums they included a comic book with song lyrics drawn by the four members of the band. Their 1992 “Hot Cakes!” single on Sub Pop Records featured photography by Charles Peterson and an illustration on the back cover by drummer Joe Newton. Newton is now deputy art director for Rolling Stone magazine. (Click on image to enlarge.)

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Wiretaps were a short-lived garage band from Seattle. Active from the late 90s into the early 00s they included Dave Holmes of the Fall Outs and former Austinite (and KOOP programmer) Lisa Rickenberg. “Fast Edit” is a brooding bouncy rocker with crisp guitar work by Holmes and cool, snarling vocals from Caryn Palmier. It appeared in 1999 on the “Recording” album on the Super Electro label. Listen to it here:
