Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, September 20, 8-10pm) include Jacqueline Taïeb, Fancy, Alice Cooper, Young Marble Giants, Robyn Hitchcock, Revillos, Mission of Burma, Peter Zaremba’s Love Delegation, M.O.T.O., Hollows, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: For “Flush the Fashion,” his fifth studio album since going solo in 1975, Alice Cooper veered stylistically towards a new wave sound. It’s lead single, Clones (We’re All), also released on Warner Bros., reached number 40 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The single’s front cover featured a photo of Cooper by celebrity photographer Jonathan Exley.

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Dirtbombs are a Detroit garage rock band fronted by the immensely talented guitarist and vocalist Mick Collins (Gories, Blacktop). Formed in the mid 90s, they have produced an extensive recorded catalogue, and were playing live as recently as 2022, and may still be. “Pheremone Smile” is a mid-tempo fuzz-drenched burner featuring some buzzing, menacing guitar work by Collins. Wicked cool tune. It appeared in 1998 on their first full-length album, the Jim Diamond produced “Horndog Fest,” on In the Red Records. Listen to it here:
