Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, July 19, 8-10pm) include the Misunderstood, Silver Apples, Brats, Devo, Animals & Men, Woodentops, Stereolab, Royal Trux, Jacuzzi Boys, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Cannibale are a French indie rock band, originally from Normandy but now based in Paris. Since 2016 they have released three albums, several “mixtapes” as well as a couple of singles and still play out on occasion. Their first album, “No Mercy for Love,” was released in 2017 on Born Bad Records. It featured artwork by bandmember Nicolas Camus.

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): Messer Chups are an instrumental surf rock band from St. Petersburg that showcases the virtuosic talents of composer and guitarist Oleg Fomchenkov (AKA Gitaracula, Oleg Gitarkin). Formed in Hamburg Germany in 1998, their sound has evolved from more experimental sample heavy electro to more traditional surf and rockabilly instrumental. “Cannibal Twist,” a song from the early years, is a high energy electro zombie dance romp with lots of synth-y blips and beeps and sound effects. It appeared in 2000 on the “Vamp Babes” album on the Solzne label. Super fun tune! Listen to it here:
