Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, July 5, 8-10pm) include Zen, Catapult, Dickies, Family Fodder, Television Personalities, Grauzone, Prisoners, Meat Puppets, Juniore, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: For their third studio album, “Up on the Sun,” Arizona rock legends The Meat Puppets continued their evolution from hardcore to a sound that included elements of country and psychedelic. Engineered by Spot it was released in March of 1985 on SST Records and became a staple on college radio. It featured cover art by guitarist and vocalist Curt Kirkwood as well as an inner sleeve illustration by drummer Derrick Bostrom.

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Tell-Tale Hearts were a San Diego based garage rock band that was active from the mid 80s up into the late 90s. They included musician, writer, and publisher of the essential Ugly Things magazine Mike Stax on bass. “Too Many Lovers” is jangly ‘66 inspired rocker with tasty guitar rave-ups and swirling keys. It appeared as the A-side of a 1987 single on the Kavern 7 label and was reissued in 2000 on Munster Records. Listen to it here:
