Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, May 17, 8-10pm) include the Outsiders, Easybeats, Hello, Helen Keller, Victims, Scientists (RIP James Baker), Ann Steel, Nena, Vermillion Sands, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Cheveu were an indie rock and punk trio from Paris. They were active from the early 00s until the late 10s, releasing several albums and singles of diverse sound and influences. They even recorded an album with the Western Saharan band Group Doueh in 2017. Their 2014 album “Bum,” was released on Born Bad Records and featured artwork by Yves Koerkel and photography by Patrice Normand.

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Oblivians were one of the true heavyweights of the 90s garage punk. Formed in 1993 in Memphis they disbanded in 1998 but have since performed at various reunion shows and even recorded a studio album in 2013. In 1997 they collaborated with New Orleans organist, inventor, and puppet master Mr. Quintron (Robert Rolston) on the “…Plays 9 Songs with Mr. Quintron” on Crypt Records. The first song on Side A, “Feel All Right,” is a sweaty rocker featuring gospel infused vocals by Greg Cartwright along with the inimitable organ sounds of Quintron. A most righteous and spiritually uplifting party tune. Listen to it here:
