Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, April 12, 8-10pm) include the Standells (RIP Larry Tamblyn), Brian Eno, Joy Division, Undertones, Sparks, Teardrop Explodes, Turbonegro, Rondelles, Franz Ferdinand, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The Undertones require little introduction to Stronger Than Dirt listeners. Formed in 1975 in Derry, Northern Ireland, they went on to great international popularity, and continue to play live today, albeit with a different lead singer. Their eponymous first album was released in May of 1979 on Sire Records to critical and popular acclaim and is considered one of the top punk/new wave albums of all-time. Its cover featured a black and white photograph of the band inspired by the Ramones. In October of 1979 it was rereleased with an alternative cover (this one) and additional tracks. Its front and rear covers featured photography by Jill Furmanovsky with the front cover photo inspired by The Who’s “My Generation” album cover.

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Tweezers were a punkish power pop band from Tokyo that included Tomoko from Supersnazz and Fifi from Teengenerate. Formed in 1995 they performed live off and on up until at least 2022 and released one album and two singles. “I’m the One” is a catchy power popper with loping bass, crisp guitar licks and Tomoko on vocals. It appeared in 1997 on their Already!” album on Time Bomb Records. Listen to it here:
