Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, April 19, 8-10pm) include Blondie (RIP Clem Burke), Brogues, Sweet, Radio Birdman, Chrome, Cristina, Dolly Mixture, Servotron, Ausmuteants, En Attendant Ana, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: “Metal Moo Cow” is a compilation of songs recorded by various 80s Austin punk and hardcore bands at the ESR studio on South Lamar. Released in 1984 on the Matako Mazuri label, it offers an excellent sampling of Austin’s vibrant underground scene at the time with bands like the Hickoids, Scratch Acid, Offenders and more. The front and back cover art was done by Jukebox AKA John Thomas Jackson, the original guitarist for the Hickoids.

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Icky Boyfriends are a self-described “proto-panic, primitive-garage rock trio” from San Francisco. Formed in 1989 they are apparently still active though almost all their recorded output is from the early and mid 90s. “I Was…” is a tasty slab of three chord low life scuzz punk from the wrong side of town. It appeared in 1995 on the “End of Lust” EP on Blackjack Records. Listen to it here:
