On this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, February 22, 8-10pm) I will be showcasing some of my favorite cover songs including tunes by the Action, Devo, Sex Pistols, Clash, Edith Massey, Butthole Surfers, Primal Scream, Mummies as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond. This is the first Saturday of KOOP’s spring membership drive. It’s through the generous financial support of our listeners that allows us to continue bringing you shows like Stronger Than Dirt.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The Silicon Teens were a short-lived fictional British new wave pop band that lasted from 1979 until 1980. Created by Mute Records founder Daniel Miller, “they” released one album and some singles, consisting mostly of covers of classic rock songs done with cheesy synth. Their lone album, “Music for Parties,” was released in 1980 on Mute Records and featured a cover design by Simone Grant.
DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Blondes were a power pop band from Los Angeles. They were formed in 1998, originally as Eagle, before changing to The Blondes in 2000. They released three albums between 2000 and 2003. “Vesna Velovic” is a slice of classic Bomp! inspired power pop with a sweet melody, jangling guitars complemented by some nice synth. It appeared in 2003 on the “Swedish Heat” album on Teenacide Records. Listen to it here:
