COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Killing Joke were a seminal post-punk band from London. Formed in 1979 they have undergone several line-up changes and released an album as recently as 2023. Their self-titled debut album was released in 1980 on the Malicious Damage label and reached number 39 in the UK charts. It featured uncredited cover art by Mike Coles based on a photograph (also uncredited) by Don McCullin of young Northern Irish rioters trying to escape clouds of tear gas released by the British Army.
DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): Big Drag were a garage band from San Antonio active in the mid 90s. They released an album and two singles. “Gotta Let Me Go” is a mid-tempo fuzzed out three chord burner with a catchy melody. It appeared in 1994 on a single on Unclean records. Listen to it here:
