Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, January 25, 8-10pm) include Chris Kersen, Badfinger, Thomas Leer, Nervous Rex, Celibate Rifles, Chris & Cosey, Three Johns, Oblivians with Mr. Quintron, Vermillion Sands, Limiñanas, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The Mallard were a San Francisco based indie rock band fronted by the talented Greer McGettrick (AKA Eline Cout). They were active from 2009 until 2013 and released two albums a couple singles. The first album, “Yes on Blood,” was released in 2012 on Castle Face Records and featured artwork by singer-songwriter Grant Earl Lavalley.
DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Girls were a punk wave band from Seattle that were active from the early to late 00s. They released three albums and several singles. Similar to some other punk bands of the time like The Spits and Lost Sounds, they featured the synth prominently in their music. “Decoy” is a mid-tempo new wave punk burner with a robotic stop-start rhythm and synth weaving in and out. It appeared in 2004 on their eponymous first album on Dirtnap Records. Listen to it here:
