Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, November 23, 8-10pm) include Lulu and the Luvvers, The Move, Glitter Band, The Jam, Adam and the Ants, Nikki and the Corvettes, Tuxedomoon, Bush Tetras, Alien Sex Fiend, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Tuxedomoon is an avant-garde collective of musicians that fuses various music styles such as electronica, new wave and jazz. They sprang from the vibrant punk scene of the Bay Area in the late 70s before relocating to New York and then Europe. Their first album “Half-Mute,” released in 1980 on Ralph Records, featured cover art by Patrick Roques. The original release came in two different versions, one with a green front and pink back (this one) and the other with pink front and green back. (Click on image to enlarge)
DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): Peglegasus is an indie rock band formed in Houston in the early 90s by brothers John and Peter Voskamp. They relocated to Austin in 1992 where they recorded and released three albums, the last in 2002. “Chief” is a loping blast of indie rock that builds to crescendo with a hint of Neil Young and Crazy Horse guitar play. It appeared in 1992 on their first release, an EP on the Angry Neighbor label, and was included on their 1996 album “So Much for King Tut” on Sector 2 Records. Listen to it here:
