Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday,
November 2, 8-10pm) include David Clayton Thomas, Archies, XIT, Eppu
Normaali, Bill Nelson’s Red Noise, Selecter, Ivy and the Teachers, Pony Time,
Melenas, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The Selecter were one of the prominent ska
revival bands of the late 70s and early 80s in the UK. Formed in Coventry in
1979 they disbanded in 1981 after their second album. Since then, they have
reformed with different line-ups and continue to tour with original member and
singer Pauline Black. Their first album, “Too Much Pressure” was released in
1980 in the UK on the Two-Tone label (founded by Jerry Dammers of The
Specials) and on Chrysalis in the US. It featured a simple black and white design,
a trademark of Two-Tone releases, by John “Teflon” Sims and David Storey
along with photographs by Rick Mann. (Click on image to enlarge)

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): New
Luck Toy were a short-lived garage punk band from Seattle. They were active in
the early 00s, releasing one EP and a split EP with The Cripples. “Battery Acid
for Love” is a punkish gem with a hint of edgy pop and some very catchy riffing. It
appeared in 2002 on a self-released EP. Listen to it here:
