Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, October 5, 8-10pm) include Ohio Express, Damned, Real Kids, Zolar X, Hoodoo Gurus, Embarrassment, Marilyns, Sugar Shack, Long Blondes, Tralala, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The Hoodoo Gurus are an Australian garage rock band that been around since the early 80s. Founded in 1981 they disbanded in 1998 and then regrouped in 2003 and have been playing and recording off and on since then. Their first album, “Stoneage Romeos,” was released On Big Time Records in March 1984 to international acclaim and reached number 1 on the US Alternative/College charts. Its cartoonish Day-Glo cover art, inspired by the movie One Million Years B.C., was designed by Yanni Stumbles. The back cover included band photos by Tom Takacs. (Click on image to enlarge)

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): Le Shok were a garage synth punk band from Long Beach CA and were active in the late 90s and early 00s. They released one album and several singles. Clocking in at 1:32 “Telephone Disasters” is a burst of guitar and synth intensity with just enough melody for my tastes. It appeared in 2000 on a split single with another Long Beach band, The Stitches, on the Gold Standard Laboratories label. Listen to it here:
