Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, August 24, 8-10pm) include Faine Jade, T. Rex, Sparks, Dils, Avengers, Rezillos, Salford Jets, Milkshakes, Frankie and the Witch Fingers, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: “The Slider” was the third album by glam rock pioneers T. Rex (seventh if you count those they released as the folk-rock band Tyrannosaurus Rex). It peaked in the charts at number 4 in the UK and 17 in the US and included two number 1 hits, “Telegram Sam” and “Metal Guru.” Released in July 1972 on the labels EMI and Reprise it featured an iconic photo of front man Marc Bolan on both the front and back covers. It was taken during the shooting of the T. Rex documentary “Born to Boogie,” and is credited to Ringo Starr, though that claim is disputed. (Click on image to enlarge)
DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Brides were/are a garage punk band from Evanston, IL and were active in the late 90s and very early 00s. Just this year they reformed to tour in support of the anthology album “Suburban Vermin” on HoZac Records. “Pushed Around” is a pedal to the metal three chord punk scorcher with snotty vocals and a crisp guitar break. It appeared in 1997 on their first release, a one-sided single on Rip Off Records. Listen to it here:
