Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, August 17, 8-10pm) include Leather Boy, Episode Six, Easybeats, Ultravox!, Gorillas, Pylon, Yachts, Kim Wilde, Pocket Fishrmen, Clinic, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Pocket FishRmen are a punk band from Austin known for crazy live shows and interesting wardrobe choices. They have been together off and on since the mid 80s and in that time have released several albums and singles. Their very first record was the “Amy Carter” single on the Electric Lord label. It was released in 1988 with four different sleeves, including this one which featured artwork by Austin artist Ellen Gibbs. It came in xeroxed paper sleeves that were touched up individually with watercolors so that each looked different. (Click on image to enlarge)
DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Pulses were a Seattle based garage-y indie rock band that were active in the early 00s. They released a couple albums and an EP between the years 2001 and 2004. “Make the Right Choice” is a punchy three chord post punker with some interesting guitar and production flourishes. It appeared in 2002 on a self-titled album on Dirtnap Records. Listen to it here:
