Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, April 20, 8-10pm) include the Mickey Finn, Elvis Costello, Swell Maps, Pointed Sticks, Delinquents, Standing Waves, Drive Like Jehu, Stereolab, Wannabes, The Like, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Drive Like Jehu were a post-hardcore band from San Diego and were active from 1990 until 1995. They recorded two albums and one single. The single, “Bullet Train to Vegas,” was released in 1992 on Merge Records and featured a cover design by their rhythm guitarist and vocalist Rick Froberg (real name Eric Farr). He passed away on June 30, 2023 from an undiagnosed heart condition.  (Click on image to enlarge)

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): Crust were a hard to categorize rock band from Austin that combined elements of psychedelic, punk and experimental in their music. Formed in 1987 they were one of the first bands signed to King Coffey’s Trance Syndicate label. They disbanded in1997. “Hard Stool” is classic Crust, a queasy mid-tempo psychedelic punk number with lyrics that some might consider poor taste, but not me! Makes me chuckle. It appeared in 1990 on Trance Syndicate’s “Love & Napalm” 7” compilation as well as on their 1991 s/t album, also on Trance.  Listen to it here:
