For this week’s show I will be spinning some of my favorite tunes including music by the Easybeats, Flamin’ Groovies, Giorgio Moroder, Saints, Soft Boys, Three O’Clock, Unicorns, Long Blondes, La Femme, some new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond. It’s also the second Saturday of KOOP’s spring membership drive. It is through the generous support of listeners like you that keep programs like STD on the air. Thank you!
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The Soft Boys’ second album, “Underwater Moonlight,” is one of those albums that was initially unsuccessful, but whose legacy and reputation have grown with time. Now considered a classic, it was a big influence on many neo-psychedelic and jangle pop bands that followed in the 80s. Released in June 1980 on Armageddon Records it featured front cover art by visual artist and sculptor Lal Hitchcock (Robyn’s sister) and photography by George Wright. (Click on image to enlarge)
DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): Les Secrétaires Volantes were a garage punk band from Montreal. They were active from 1993 to 1999 and released three albums and two singles. “Récidiviste” is a catchy high energy rocker with lyrics en français. Recorded, produced, and mixed by former Austin resident Mike Mariconda, it appeared in 1996 on the “Thermplastique” album on the Tir Groupé record label. Listen to it here:
