Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, February 17, 8-10pm) include the La De Da’s, Thor’s Hammer, Tintern Abbey, Pink Section, Skids, dB’s, Screaming Trees, Ladytron, Polysics, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The dB’s were a power pop band based in NYC (though all the band members were from Winston-Salem, North Carolina) and active from the late 70s until the mid 80s. They included the song-writing duo of Peter Holsapple (later of R.E.M.) and Chris Stamey. Prior to Stamey’s departure from the band in 1982 the band had released two albums and several singles including this one, the “Judy” single in 1981 on Albion Records. It featured artwork by the British design company Assorted Images as well as a photo by Steve Wallgren. (Click on image to enlarge)

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a vintage gem from the STD vaults): The Hormones are an Austin punk band fronted by music journalist and guitarist Tim “Napalm” Stegall. They were active mainly in the mid 90s and released three singles. Stegall and original bass player Ron Williams are still playing and writing songs together. “Sell Out Young” is a 1977 inspired punk rocker with some searing guitar and snarling vocals. It was their first single and appeared in 1994 on Unclean records. Listen to it here:
