Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, November 11, 8-10pm) include Peter’s Pipers, Rupert’s People, Mental As Anything, Lines, Our Daughter’s Wedding, Bristols, Lost Sounds, Wax Idols, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.
COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Our Daughter’s Wedding was an 80s synth pop trio based in New York city. Their first release, the “Lawnchairs’ single, came out in 1981 on their own Deign label and reached #31 on the Billboard Disco Chart. The cover design, a lawn chair set against a graph, was done by band member Layne Rico. The chair appeared in different colors on different sleeves. (Click on image to enlarge.)
DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a forgotten gem from the STD vaults): The Spider babies were a garage punk band from Portland OR. They were active from 1992 until 2012 and released numerous albums and singles. “Stop Your Messing ‘Round with My Head” is quintessential 90s garage rock, a primitive three chord romp with hot guitar licks, a bit of keyboard, lots of screams and a pissed off dude with a problem with his chick. It appeared in 1994 on “The Arachnophonic Sounds of…” EP on Screaming Apple Records. Listen to it here:
