Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, October 14, 8-10pm) include the Stranglers, Models, Pere Ubu, 20/20, Hazel O’Connor, Holly and the Italians, Flipper, Tweezers, Polysics, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Cleveland’s Pere Ubu released “The Modern Dance,” their first full-length album, in January 1978, following the release of four singles. Originally appearing on Blank Records, it was later reissued on various labels including Rough Trade (this one). Both the front and back covers capture the influence of the industrial Midwest in their music, which they described as “avant garage.” The artwork was by S.W. (Steve) Taylor, and the photo on the back by Mik Mellen. (Click on image to enlarge.)

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a forgotten gem from the STD vaults): Supersnazz makes their second appearance as a Dusty Diamond band. Formed in the early 90s in Tokyo, they underwent several line-up changes, with Tomoko Butane and Michi Spike the two constant band members. They disbanded in 2017. Their third album, “Diode City,” released in 1998 on Sympathy for the Record Industry, included Teengenerate’s Shoe on drums, and offered a slightly poppier sound than their previous releases. “Too Much Trouble” is a fun high energy pop punker with some great fuzzed out guitar riffs.
