Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, July 22, 8-10pm) include the Jelly Bean Bandits, Norman Greenbaum, Trevor White, Boomtown Rats, Purple Hearts, Bongos, Shivvers, Big Black, La Femme, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Big Black’s “Il Duce” single featured uncredited and not so subtle cover art with an image of fascist dictator Benito Mussolini superimposed on the Italian flag. It appeared in 1985 on Homestead Records. (Click on image to enlarge.)

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a forgotten gem from the STD vaults): Sincola, an indie rock band from Austin, were active in the mid 90s until their break-up in 1997. Their releases included several singles as well as two albums on the major label Caroline Records. “Girlfriend” is an up-tempo, emotionally intense rocker with a driving rhythm section and crisp guitar. It appeared as a single in 1994 on the Get Go label, and then a year later on the “What the Nothinghead Said” album on Caroline. Listen to it here:
