Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, May 6, 8-10pm) include Hello, Jam, Pop Group (RIP Mark Stewart), Embarrassment, Stranglers, 100 Flowers, Ed Hall, Thee Headcoats, Franz Ferdinand, Peach Kelli Pop, lots of new music as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Tripod Jimmie were a band from Erie, PA that was led by former Pere Ubu guitarist Tom Herman. After recording the live album “Long Walk off a Short Pier” (recorded on the shores of Lake Erie) in 1982, Herman relocated to Oakland and reformed the band. The “No Autumn Leaves / Spike the Dike” single included two songs from the live album and was released in 1983 on T.M.I. Products. It featured artwork on both the front and back covers by Jay A. Scalise. Click on image to enlarge.

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a forgotten gem from the STD vaults): The Action Swingers were a NYC alt punk band led by Ned Hayden. Various iterations of the band, but always including Hayden, were active from the late 80s until a final live performance in 1998. “Bum My Trip” is classic Action Swingers, a primitive and noisy three-chord assault, pissed off vocals and a short but scorching guitar break. It appeared on their first release, a 1989 single on Noiseville Records. Listen to it here:
