Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, February 11, 8-10pm) include Thor’s Hammer, Factory, Archies, Undertones, Vibrators, Girls at Our Best, Game Theory, Cristina, Leather Uppers, lots of new music, as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: COVER ART OF THE WEEK: The Archies were a fictional band featuring characters from the popular comic strip, and later cartoon show. A studio band with session musicians was formed to record music that was released under the Archies name in the late 60s and early 70s. “Bang-Shang-A-Lang” was an early single, released on the Calendar label in 1968. It featured uncredited cover art, presumably based on the characters created by original Archie artist Bob Montana. Click on image to enlarge.

DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a forgotten gem from the STD vaults): The Dirtbombs are a Detroit garage rock band fronted by the immensely talented guitarist and vocalist Mick Collins. They have been active since the mid 90s, producing an extensive recorded catalogue, and continue to play live. “Your Love Belongs Under a Rock” is a fuzz drenched up-tempo scorcher. It appeared in 2001 on the “Ultraglide in Black” on In the Red Records. Listen to it here:
