Some FEATURED ARTISTS on this week’s Stronger Than Dirt (Saturday, January 14, 8-10pm) include the Tickle, Shoes, Cortinas, Skids, Hollywood Killers, The Clean (RIP Hamish Kilgour), Green River, Armitage Shanks with Billy Childish, Smugglers, Dan Melchior und Das Menace, lots of new music, as well as the weekly Dusty Diamond.

COVER ART OF THE WEEK: Green River, a Seattle based rock band, pioneered the early grunge sound, and included members who would go on to form Mudhoney and Pearl Jam among other bands. Recorded in 1987, “Rehab Doll” was released in June of 1988 on Sub Pop (Glitterhouse in Europe), several months after the group had disbanded. It featured a jacket design by Linda Owens and photography by Charles Peterson. An inner sleeve featured a design by Jeff Ament. The first thousand copies were pressed on clear green vinyl. DUSTY DIAMOND OF THE WEEK (a forgotten gem from the STD vaults): The Romulans were a garage/neo psych band from Minneapolis that was active in the early and mid 90s. They released one album and three singles. “She’s Tara” is a simmering mid-tempo nugget channeling 60s garage psych. It appeared in 1991 on a single on Susstones Records. Listen to it here:
