This Monday on Reflections of Community Outreach our guest is Shannon Carr, Executive Director of Austin Area Mental Health Consumers. Its Self-Help and Advocacy Center makes a difference for people with lived experiences of mental health, substance use, and homelessness. KOOP apprentice Michelle Boyd speaks with Shannon about the stigma that unfortunately is too often associated with mental illness. They discuss services that are especially relevant for Austin’s African American community. Shannon will chair the 21st Annual Central Texas African American Family Support Conference which will be held virtually in February.
