This week on Civil Rights and Wrongs we consider the possible formation of a second school district for Austin. Roxanne Evans, who chronicled the de-segregation, then the de facto re-segregation of AISD in the 1980s for the Austin American-Statesman, discusses a plan to move schools in East Austin into a separate district. Roxanne heads the recently formed organization Fairness and Reinvestment in Eastside Education, or FREE. We also have our regular guest Jim Harrington, founder of the Texas Civil Rights Project. Jim has been working with Roxanne and the East Austin Coalition for Quality Education for several years. KOOP’s Michelle Manning-Scott joins us, too.

And Austin Sanders provides updates from the Austin City Council, which he covers as staff writer for the Austin Chronicle. Austin considers the backlash from funding reductions for APD, as well as the tenure of Chief Brian Manley.
