Louis Harrison was born under a bad sign in one of the outer circles. In a lonely shack by a railroad track he spent his younger days. And we guess the sound of the outward-bound made him aware of his wand’rin’ ways. After all, he was born the next of kin … the next of kin to the wayward wind.

Louis has also spent most of his life listening to music; a lot of music of all kinds, but especially the sounds of the Great American Songbook. In the 1990s he developed ‘American Pop’ for another station in an alternate universe and in 2015 Tim Hertenberger revived the show on KOOP. Tim, who now is the host of ‘Country Standard Time’ on Thursday mornings, invited Louis to join him on the show and later transferred programming responsibilities to Louis.
American Pop is a weekly celebration of a time when most of the great American pop songs came from Broadway, Hollywood, and the diverse group of composers and lyricists collectively gathered under the umbrella of Tin Pan Alley. There are diversions into jazz, country, r’n’b, folk and other areas on the show but all of ‘American Pop’ is designed to celebrate the great legacy of American popular music. Each week a thematic program focuses on a performer, a song writer, an anniversary or a concept in service to this national cultural treasure.
